Our Story
The Rise of Community Street Arts (CSA): Igniting Change through Creativity
It all started in March 2023, with a small group of 5-6 people, full of passion and a big idea: to experiment with painting walls in our city. Armed with the necessary permissions, we embarked on what we thought would be a modest project, painting a mere 1,500 square feet of urban space. We were certain we wouldn’t be able to finish it on our own, and, to our surprise, we were right.
In just four days, the walls we started painting attracted over 100 people—friends, friends of friends, curious passersby, and even strangers—who all wanted to be part of this spontaneous act of creation. It was pure joy to see how, in an instant, we had formed a community. We hadn’t anticipated this flood of support, but it felt right. Everyone who picked up a brush had the same underlying desire: to leave a mark, to create something that was a reflection of their own connection to the city, a personal imprint on a shared space. This was a moment of belonging, of pride, and it filled us with an energy that could not be ignored.
From that moment on, we made it our mission to bring more and more people into the fold. We believed that each stroke on that wall wasn’t just about the art—it was about building memories, and a collective sense of ownership over the space. We knew that this was more than just street art; it was the beginning of a movement.
Fast forward to today, and CSA has evolved into a thriving ecosystem of artists, community members, and brands. We’ve built a network of over 1,200 passionate individuals, all coming together to shape the city's aesthetic through creative collaborations. We’ve gained access to nearly every public space in Ahmedabad, turning them into vibrant canvases of expression and community engagement. Brands now approach us to collaborate on projects that add meaningful, mindful representations to public spaces, creating thoughtful visibility while nurturing community involvement.
What started as a humble experiment has now become a platform where artists find opportunities, and where people feel truly connected to their city. We believe that our cities need to be more intimate, more personal, and more like home. It’s not just about the urban or rural divide; it’s about bringing people together in the spaces they occupy every day. And as we light the lamp of creativity and collaboration, we understand that while the act of lighting a lamp may stay the same, its context—and the spaces it illuminates—are changing for the better.
